The European Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ETTFA) brings together 20 of Europe's greatest tourism exhibitions. Membership is strictly controlled so only the best and most productive fairs that adhere to a rigorous set of professional standards can join. ETTFA also develops educational projects to ensure tourism industry professionals get the most out of the fairs they attend. The association's latest publication 'Guidelines for Exhibitors' that has been produced with the help of World Tourism Organisation, can be found on the re-designed website.

Press Release July 2004

ETTFA ELECTS NEW COMMITTEE FOR 2005

The European Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ETTFA) elected a new executive committee at its annual general meeting in Moscow last week. Tom Nutley, Chairman of ETTFA, believes that "this new committee which has been nominated will generate a greater depth of understanding amongst the member shows and bring fresh perspective to the association.”

"All appointments were aimed at strengthening the central administration of ETTFA and providing members with more opportunity to contribute towards both the association and the industry as a whole", he continued.

Committee members begin their term of office in July 2004 until their re-election the following year.

Since its establishment in 1992 ETTFA has been dedicated to raising its profile as an information source for the travel and exhibition industries. The newly-elected committee is aware of the ETTFA's goals and is determined to work towards achieving them.

Klara Tihanyi, director of Utazas, was elected as president of ETTFA. and also takes a second term as Treasurer. Nutley commented on the appointments, "Utazas has been a long standing member of ETTFA and we are confident that Klara’s knowledge of the association coupled with her experience within the exhibition industry will successfully steer the course of the association.”

Ms Tihanyi had this to say about her new role; “ It is a great honour for me to be elected to this position and a big challenge as well. As the president I will represent ETTFA in different trade assotiations such as WTO, UFI and I look forward to being able to provide interviews about ETTFA and exhibitions in general to the tourism trade press.
I believe that UTAZAS – the international tourism exhibition in Budapest of which I am the director – will also benefit from my new position in ETTFA, in that it may lead to an increased number of foreign exhibitors and trade visitors. I am very much looking forward to this role and I am convinced that my colleagues in ETTFA and the secretariat will help me in working effectively and successfully.

Hacer Aydin, Director of Emitt, was elected as Vice President and is also responsible for new membership enquiries. She commented, "ETTFA has managed to considerably raise the profile of the travel and tourism exhibitions of its members so far. All ETTFA members have had the opportunity to promote their exhibitions in Europe in previous years with great success. As the new Vice president of ETTFA I am looking forward to more successes in 2004/2005 and to the exciting new plans underfoot that will strengthen the structure of ETTFA and broaden our member base. This way we can share our experiences and organize much better and more fruitful exhibitions for the exhibitors of the future."

Other appointments to the Executive Committee include Frederique Maurell, International Director of ITE Travel Exhibitions and responsible for MITT and UITT, as Treasurer and Membership Officer; Fiona Jeffery, Director of WTM in London, takes on a second term as Media Relations Officer and also the role of Sponsorship. Zeljka Tomljenovik, of ITE Travel Exhibitions continues as WTO Relations Officer.
